Title I
Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state. A portion of funds received for Canon-McMillan is used to service eligible students enrolled in private school.
Canon-McMillan operates a Targeted Assistance program at South Central Elementary School and beginning with the 2021 school year, Muse Elementary School (Cecil Intermediate School and North Strabane Intermediate School were Title I schools up until 2021 SY). Each school provides Title I services to children who are failing, or most at risk of failing, to meet challenging State academic standards. Any student who qualifies for these services are eligible to work with our Title I teachers regardless of socioeconomic status.
